UNION — Some children will get presents for Christmas and families in need some help with the necessities of life thanks to a fundraiser Thursday evening at Augsburg Lutheran Church.
The members of the church’s Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America group served up a spaghetti supper with dessert in the church activities center to raise funds for their Community Service Project.
“Part of the money we raise for our Community Service Project goes to purchase toys for children for Secret Santa at Grace United Methodist,” Debbie Buchanan, WELCA member and church treasurer, said Thursday. “We usually get six names from the Secret Santa tree at Grace.
“We also use part of the money to help families with needs during the winter,” she said. “We use it to help them with power bills and with groceries.”
Buchanan and fellow WELCA members Audrey Lancaster, Kim Kalb, and Sharon Rupp cooked and served spaghetti, meat sauce, and garlic bread. They also served desserts such as cranberry cake and pound cake.
They were also assisted during the evening by fellow church member Michael Rupp and church pastor the Rev. Carroll Robinson.
Other church members contributed such things as ground beef for the meat sauce and baked good for the dessert table to support the fundraiser.
Buchanan said Friday morning that the sale raised $372.
“We thank the community for their continued support,” Buchanan said.
