CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mr. Vernon Harrison Bright Sr., 90, widow of Eveline West Bright, 1823 Starbrooks Drive, Charlotte, N.C., passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, N.C.


Mr. Bright was born in Buffalo, April 13, 1923, a son of the late John T. and Burdia Dobbins Bright. He was a graduate of Union High School and a 1952 graduate of Wofford College. Mr. Bright retired from Eastern Airlines, after which he worked with local car dealerships in the Charlotte area in sales and transportation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during World War II and was a Mason and Past President of the Charlotte Shrine Club.


Surviving are a son, Tim Bright of Charlotte; a sister, Alma Gibbs of Union; two brothers, Bobby Ray Bright and wife Marilyn of Union and Tommy Bright and wife Ann of Clyde, N.C.


Mr. Bright was predeceased by a son, Vernon H. Bright Jr.; four sisters, Louise B. Moss and husband C.H. Moss, Ruth B. Millwood and husband “Wink” Millwood, Evelyn B. McLane and husband Ed McLane, and Annie B. Cagel; a brother, Fred T. Bright and wife Lillie Mae; and a brother-in-law, Clyde Gibbs.


Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2013 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Shawn Ingle and Keith Geohagan. Burial with Military Honors will be at Putman Baptist Church Cemetery.


Active pallbearers will be Danny Bright, David Barber, Toney Rector, Randall Mims, Steve McKee and Stuart Jones.


Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the services at the chapel and also following the committal services at the cemetery.


Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care of Cabarrus Co., 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.


The family will be at the home of his brother, Bobby Ray and Marilyn Bright, 420 Pineneedle Road, Union.
