UNION — Around 200 people enjoyed a hot night of pro wrestling action under the Union County Fairgrounds picnic shelter Saturday evening.

Trans-South Wrestling presented a six-match wrestling card over the weekend. Coach GB McDaniel and student athletes from the Union County Yellow Jackets Wrestling Program were guests during the event.

The main event was a six-man tag-team match pitting the team of Alex Avgerinos and TSW Tag Team Champions Deon Johnson and Dirty against the “League of Intrigue” (Kameron Kade, Jaxson James and Michael Frehley) with Tessa Blanchard in their corner. The League of Intrigue was victorious after controversial tactics on the part of Blanchard.

Just prior to the main event, Blanchard defeated Amanda Rodriguez in singles competition.

“I couldn’t get to the show until about halfway through, so I took the night off and watched,” said senior referee Tracy Rash. “I’ve never seen anyone get the crowd stirred up like Tessa Blanchard did. It was just wild.”

TSW board member Ray “Bit” Barber said the crowd may have been reacting to comments she made Saturday morning during WBCU’s “Saturday Sports Hour” with Bo Rabb. Barber was in WBCU during the live broadcast.

“The interview started out pleasant, with Tessa just talking about her training and wrestling background,” Barber said. “But then she said that wrestling fans in Union needed to learn to appreciate talent. She said they should be thankful she comes to Union when she has so many important places to go.”

“I haven’t seen the crowd react to anyone like that since Deon Johnson,” Barber added. “As much as everyone loves Deon, that’s how much they love to hate Tessa.”

Also on the card, Jeff Lewis Neal defeated “Hardcore Hitman” Hunter Thompson w/ “The” Tommy Thomas; Cauliflower Brown defeated George South; Jett Black and Garrett Sinclair defeated D’Andre Jackson and Lee Hawkins; and Josh Powers defeated Joey Ford.

TSW will return to Union County on Sept. 6, after two upcoming shows in Gaffney, one of which will benefit students in Union County.

South Carolina Peach Festival

TSW will present “Legends of the Ring” at the 2014 South Carolina Peach Festival at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19, in Downtown Gaffney. Admission for this event is free for all festival-goers.

Matches will include TSW Heavyweight Champion and former WCW star STRO “The Maestro of Wrestling” taking on WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014 inductee, Jake “The Snake” Roberts. STRO and Roberts are well acquainted, as they formerly competed as a tag team in Mexico.

Another historic match in the line-up will be a tag-team match which has never taken place — “Rock and Roll Express” Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson will take on the team of “Raging Bull” Manny Fernandez and Dr. Tom Prichard. The Rock and Roll Express have had legendary feuds with both men, but not at the same time.

The card will also feature a bout between Amanda Rodriguez and Devyn Nicole, as well as several other matches featuring wrestlers such as Deon Johnson, Cauliflower Brown, Kameron Kade, “Mr. Number 1” George South, and more.

Brawl at Broad River Electric

Trans-South Wrestling will partner with Broad River Electric Charities to present “Brawl at Broad River Electric,” a professional wrestling event to benefit middle school students in Broad River Electric’s service area.

The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Broad River Electric Auditorium.

Several big name wrestlers are already scheduled to compete, including “American Wolf” Davey Richards, who is one-half of the current TNA Wrestling (seen weekly on Spike TV) Tag-Team Champions. Also scheduled for in-ring action are Ricky Morton, who is one-half of the legendary Rock & Roll Express; current TSW Heavyweight Champion and former WCW star STRO “The Maestro of Wrestling”; and third-generation wrestler Tessa Blanchard.

Tickets for the event are already available for purchase at the Broad River Electric Cooperative office and online at BrawlatBRE.eventbrite.com.
