SPARTANBURG — Union County will be one of 20 teams to compete in a state qualifier for a national tournament.

The South Carolina qualifier for the National Select 7on7 Championship Series will take place June 26-27 at Spartanburg High School. Spartanburg High was the winner of the 2014 North Gwinnett Qualifier and will serve as the new location and partner for the 2014 South Carolina Qualifier.

“Spartanburg High School is so excited to partner with National Select 7on7,” said Spartanburg High School Athletic Director Todd Staley. “National Select 7on7 is a credible organization that everyone in the Southeast is familiar with and we are looking forward to this partnership.”

The tournament will begin on June 26 with pool play taking place between all 20 teams. Tournament seeding will occur that evening and can be seen online via the Tourney Machine mobile app. The second day of competition, June 27, will consist of first round, loser’s bracket, and winner’s bracket games. The tournament will end with the championship game and awards ceremony taking place that afternoon.

The teams participating in the South Carolina Qualifier are: Boiling Springs, Chapman, Chesnee, Greenville, Hillcrest A, Hillcrest B, Jefferson County, Landrum, Spartanburg A, Spartanburg B, Union County, Wren, Chapin, Conway, Greer, Irmo, Powdersville, Ridge View, Westside, and Woodruff.

“The Southeast is known for high school football and South Carolina is no different. There are some great teams from the local area, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach coming to this qualifier,” said Staley. “We are looking forward to this event and the great competition we will have.”

The South Carolina Qualifier is one of the 12 National Select 7on7 Qualifiying Tournaments to be held this summer. The winner from each tournament qualifies to play in the National Select 7on7 Championships in Hoover, Al. July 17-19.
