UNION COUNTY — A local Dixie Youth All-Star team was 2-1 in a regional tournament as of Wednesday afternoon.


The Dixie Youth OZone District 2 All Stars Tournament (for 11- and 12-year-olds) began Saturday in Gaffney.


The Union County Dixie Youth OZone All-Stars played their first game of the double elimination tournament on Sunday, defeating Clover in a final score of 9-3. Kaleb Small hit a double, and Kee’Sean Glover, Jerel Dawkins, Rhett Cannon, Ralph Peake, Mason Melton and Garris Hendrix each hit a single.


On Monday, Union County fell to the Lancaster Nationals in a final score of 22-3. Tyshond Eison and Connor Mitchell each hit a double, while Rhett Cannon, Garris Hendrix and Ralph Peake each had singles. Union County’s pitchers were Mason Melton, who had two strikeouts, and Kaleb Small, who had one strikeout.


On Tuesday, Union County shut out Blacksburg 7-0. Kaleb Small hit a grand slam home run, and Kee’Sean Glover also had a home run. Rhett Cannon, Mason Melton, Kaden Lawson, Garris Hendrix and Ralph Peake each had singles. Kaleb Small pitched three innings, striking out three batters and allowing two hits. Jerel Dawkins pitched two innings, striking out three batters and allowing one hit. Mason Melton pitched one inning and allowed no hits.


The Union County OZone All-Stars traveled back to Gaffney on Wednesday, playing to stay eligible for district championship competition. Look for the results of Wednesday’s game in tomorrow’s edition of The Union Daily Times, on www.uniondailytimes.com, and on The Union Daily Times’ Facebook page.
