UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets girls varsity basketball team added a win and a loss to its record after games played Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday, Union County defeated Richard Winn Academy with a final score of 43-38. Top scorers in the game were Mariana Eison with 16 points, Brooke Smith with 13 points, Dexlie Inman with eight points and Chelise Morman with six points.

“Monday’s game was a great win for us,” said Coach Angela Burke. “To play and beat a team that has two back to back championships, an 18-0 record, and a win against us by 26 points the first time we played them, was a great confidence and momentum builder for the girls. They played well offensively and defensively.”

Burke said the team unfortunately did not play as well on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets took on the Broome Centurions, falling short with a final score of 55-43.

“We didn’t shoot or rebound well, and we had too many turnovers,” Burke said.

Tuesday’s game was a close one, as it was tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter, and 23-23 at the end of the second quarter. In the second half, however, Broome scored 32 points to Union County’s 20 points.

Union County will now prepare to go on the road to face Chester on Friday.

“We have two days to regroup before we have to go to Chester,” Burke said. “That is going to be a tough game, but I believe the girls will be ready to compete.”
