UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets boys basketball team fell to Chapman on Friday with a final score of 78-55.

Head Coach Will Hickson said all of his players played hard.

“All the kids battled, and I’m proud of them,” Hickson said. “But we have got to be able to do a better job at taking care of the basketball against a very good team.”

Sophomore Quan Hardy led the game in scoring and rebounds, scoring 16 points and getting 14 rebounds (four offensive and 10 defensive). Other leading scorers were Kurtlin Rice with 10 points, as well as JD Cheek and Jared Booker, who scored six points each. Rice also had five assists.

Hickson said the deciding factor came when there were around seven minutes left in the game, and Union County turned the ball over a couple times in a row, allowing Chapman to run up the score.

The Yellow Jackets are preparing for a big game against Broome tonight as they attempt to improve their record to 1-1 in their region.
