UNION — The Sims Middle School volleyball team defeated Gaffney Middle 3-1 Wednesday.

Coach Tracy Duncan said the scores were 14-25, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-15.

“The girls played great as a team,” Duncan said. “We served, passed and hit really well. Emily Phillips served well, as well as Shy Means, Bailey Betenbaugh, Aaliyah Curenton, Julia Phillips and Josie Hayes. Betenbaugh, and Means hustled and had some great digs. I knew we could do it.

“We look forward to playing Saturday in the Peachtree Tournament,” she said. “Mikayla Bennet played well on defense. With having basically a brand new team this year except for two players, we have improved so much. I am well pleased with the improvements.”
