Your Sims Tiger 7th grade football team lost a heart-breaker to the Fairforest Hornets Thursday night — 24-6. The defense held the Hornets in check, all but four big plays. The offense moved the ball the whole game, but just couldn’t put it in the end zone when it got close. T.T. Kershaw had a big day with the ball, but came up bigger on defense, getting a big interception late in the game. Jordan Kershaw threw a beautiful touchdown pass to Zy Bates.
“We turned the ball over six times thanks to the defense because the score could have been worse. We have things to work on and will continue to push to get the best effort we can.”
The score didn’t represent how well the team played. The Tigers are confident for their game next week.
It was one of the most electrifying games ever played on Sims field — the Tigers came to play! They beat the Fairforest Hornets 22-12 to remain undefeated!
The defense gave up a TD early but the Tigers fought right back on offense with a 15-yard touchdown run by Ladarius Jeter and a two-point conversion by Bryan Good. The next score came late in the second quarter by Sammy Brannon on a 20-yard quarterback keep run. Caleb Vanderford caught the two-point conversion to put the Tigers up 16-6. That would be all the defense needed. After the first drive of the game, the defense became a wall that the Hornets couldn’t get through!
The defense lost a great player in Terrance Briggs when he broke his arm at practice this week. His teammates played inspired football on the defensive side of the ball. Drey Glen made his return to the field in a big way, getting numerous sacks and tackles for a loss and screaming the whole way! The rest of the Sims defense, aka “Backyard Boys,” fed off of Drey’s intensity, stone cold stopping the Hornets offense on every play. Shyric Hampton came up with a great interception and return to shut down the Hornets on one drive, while Dudley Thompson got an interception and ran it back 60 yards for a touchdown! The defensive line — the Purple People Eaters — once again played in the Hornets backfield, shutting down their two stud running backs.
If you want to be part of the excitement, you have your chance next week when McCracken comes to town on Thursday! It was a tight game last year and looks to be another exciting game this year!
