UNION — After being canceled last month due to inclement weather, the second “I Love a Summer Night” Downtown Music Fest will be presented this evening.
The decision to proceed with the concert was made Friday afternoon according to Union County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Torance Inman. Even though the possibility of rain will persist throughout the weekend, Inman said the decision was made to have the concert as scheduled.
The event, which will be held from 7-10 p.m. on Main Street, will feature a performance by The Weatherman Band, featuring WSPA-TV personality and Union native Jack Roper. The band has been together for 10 years and includes other Union natives Andre Kerr, Ronnie Hayes and Pickle Eaves. The band also includes Richard McBrayer of Rutherfordton, N.C.
Audience members will be able to sing and dance the night away as the band plays oldies favorites and beach music hits.
Sponsors for the event include (Band Sponsors) Founders Federal Credit Union, USC Union, Heartland Healthcare of Union, and Barbara Rippy; and (Block Sponsors) Bell Petroleum & Exxon, Quality Inn, Hart Insurance Agency (Allstate), Timken, City Tire and Lube, and WBCU.
