UNION — Work is moving forward on a new plaza that, when completed, will be the new home of three local businesses.
“Audrey Plaza” will be located at 317 Buffalo-West Springs Highway near the Walmart Supercenter.
The permit for the project was issued in June and grading began soon afterward. Plans are for the 17,000 square-foot facility to be completed by October.
Construction crews were busy Monday morning working to make that happen, with some putting one section of the plaza’s metal frame in place while others were working on another section putting up its cinder block walls.
The plaza is being built by SGC-McWhorter on behalf of HL Union, LLC, a Charlotte, NC-based developer. A previous project of SGC was the Shoe Show building located just across the Walmart parking lot from where the plaza will be located.
Once it is built, the plaza will be the new home of Dollar Tree, Hibbett Sports, and Cato, all of which are currently located at 441 N. Duncan Bypass.
As for when the stores will relocate to the plaza, only one, Hibbett Sports, has announced when it plans to move. In June, a Hibbett spokesman said the company plans to relocate the store to its new location by January. The spokesman said the new location will be more convenient for the store’s customers.
