UNION — Persons interested in working as warehouse or delivery personnel for a local store but who were unable to attend a job recruitment event on Monday can still apply for those positions at the store itself.

Farmer’s Home Furniture held a job recruitment event at the SCWorks Union office on Monday morning looking to hire part-time delivery/warehouse personnel. The two positions pay $8 an hour.

Katherine Pendergrass, Business Services Consultant for SC Works Upstate, conducted the event on behalf of Farmer’s Home Furniture, receiving applications from and interviewing persons applying for the positions and referring them to the store’s management for further consideration.

Tom Taylor, manager and co-owner of the store, said Monday he was pleased with the results of the recruitment event.

“I’ve got a few people she (Pendergrass) sent down here that I’m taking a look at,” Taylor said. “She said she’s got a few more she’ll be sending for me to take a look at.”

Even if they weren’t able to attend the recruitment event, Taylor said persons interested in applying for the positions can do so at the store, which is located at 408 N. Duncan Bypass, Union, and is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Persons hired for the positions will be expected to:

• Provide excellent customer service.

• Help build customer loyalty.

• Ensure proper loading of deliverable vehicle with all furnishings.

• Prepare for client deliveries ensuring all merchandise has correct paperwork.

Hours may vary and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds (push, pull, carry) is required.

Applicants must also have a valid driver’s license.

Pizza Hut

Another local business will be holding a job recruitment event this week at the SCWorks Union office.

Pizza Hunt will hold the recruitment event Wednesday from 10 a.m.-noon.

The restaurant is looking to hire delivery drivers, servers, and cooks.

Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours and drivers must be at least 18 years old while other team members can be no younger than 16.

Prior to the event all applicants must register at www.scworks.org and view the job order.

The flier announcing the recruitment event states Pizza Hut is “looking for team members who can greet and serve customers or prepare food in the kitchen area or deliver our pizzas and pasta.”

Recruitment Events

Wednesday’s event will be the fifth job recruitment event hosted by the SCWorks Union office within the past three weeks.

In addition to Farmer’s Home Furniture, the previous events have been conducted by the Spartanburg branch of the Talent Force staffing agency which was looking to hire workers to fill general warehouse positions that pay $9.50 to $10.50 an hour; by the SC Department of Corrections looking to fill corrections officers positions at Tyger River Correctional Facility which pay $25,060 and up; and Express Employment Professionals which was recruiting for a variety of jobs in Union and Spartanburg counties.

The four events already held have resulted in more than 30 applicants either being hired or scheduled to be interviewed and possibly recommended for hiring.

More recruitment events will be held later this month at the SCWorks Union office at 103 W. Main St., Union.
