UNION — Even though the first show won’t actually start until Friday afternoon the circus is in town.
The Union County Fairgrounds were busy Wednesday morning as roustabouts put up the Big Top for The Zerbini Family Circus which will entertain the people of Union County with shows at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday.
Under the Big Top during those shows will be an array of performers both human and animal. Some of those animal performers — several horses and two camels — were already at the fairgrounds Wednesday morning, dining on straw as the tent under which they will perform was being put up.
Also performing under the Big Top will be other animal acts, jugglers, aerial artists, comedy balancing acts, and clowns.
The Zerbini Family Circus is being sponsored by the Union Rotary Club which last week brought “Mister Greggy” the circus clown to the elementary schools of Union County to entertain the students and distribute ticket coupons to them. With a coupon, a child’s ticket can be purchased at the advance ticket sale locations for $5 off the $10 price at the gate.
An adult ticket, which will cost $12 at the gate, can be purchased at the advance ticket sale locations for $10.
Advance tickets to the circus are being sold at:
• Provide Community Bank
• Arthur State Bank
• Union County Courthouse
• City of Union Municipal Building
• Clemson Extension
• Union Housing Authority Office
• Correll Insurance
• USC Union
• Wallace Thomson Hospital
Advance ticket sale locations will be selling tickets until noon Friday.
Rotary is sponsoring the circus as a successor fund raising event to its aluminum drive which the club recently discontinued. As it did with the funds raised through the aluminum drive and other fundraisers it conducts throughout the year, Rotary will use the funds generated by the circus to continue its support for local organizations such as the Dixie Youth, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, and Potters Storehouse.
