UNION — Local schools and charitable organizations will have the opportunity to raise funds by selling tickets to the Belk Spring Charity Sale at the Union Belk Store on May 3.
The Belk Spring Charity Sale is a biannual event that enables Belk customers to support the schools and charitable organizations within their communities while also taking advantage of special discounts of 20-70 percent on purchases made during the four-hour event.
As part of the Spring Charity Sale, schools and charitable organizations in the communities served by Belk stores, can obtain tickets to sell for the sale from their local Belk store. The schools and charities then sell the tickets — which cost $5 each — and keep 100 percent of the proceeds from each sale.
Darla Love, a Store Associate at the Union Belk Store, said that five organizations — Union Lions Club, Meals on Wheels, Foster Park Elementary School, Relay for Life, and Halfway There Rescue — are already selling tickets. Love said that any other local school or charitable organization that wants to participate should call the store at 864-427-1281, Ext. 210 as soon as possible in order to have enough time to sell their tickets. She said the schools and charitable organizations can get as many or as few tickets as they need.
Like its fellow Belk stores throughout the company’s service area, the Union Belk Store will begin selling the tickets to the Spring Charity Sale on Friday, April 25.
All revenues from in-store ticket purchases will be divided equally among the participating schools and charities. In addition, all participating schools and charities will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $1,000 cash awards (one in each of the three Belk operating divisions).
Customers who purchase the tickets can bring them to the Spring Charity Sale, which will be held from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, and get 20-70 percent off purchases of rarely discounted brands. They will also receive a $5 credit on those purchases offsetting the cost of the ticket.
The first 100 customers in each store on the morning of the Charity Sale will receive free Belk gift cards ranging in value from $5 to $100, and a chance to win one of three $1,000 Belk gift cards awarded company-wide.
In addition, Love said that customers who may be unable to attend the May 3 sale, can bring their ticket in before then and make their purchase and the store will hold it for them until they can pick it up.
“Our biannual Charity Sale is a win-win for Belk and the communities we serve,” said Jessica Graham, vice president, communications and community relations at Belk. “The upcoming Charity Sale event on May 3 is a great opportunity for our customers to get great bargains on our latest fall fashions and top brands and at the same time benefit their favorite local charities. It’s one of many ways that Belk reinforces its long-standing commitment to community involvement and charitable giving.”
The Fall 2013 Belk Charity Sale raised more than $5 million for nearly 8,000 schools and community nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in Belk markets, and last year, the two Charity Sale events together raised a total of more than $10 million for participating charities.
