BUFFALO — Five weeks after it was forced to close because of a fire Andy’s restaurant reopened this week to the delight of both its staff and its customers.
On Monday, Jan. 27, one of the fryers in the restaurant caught fire shortly after being turned on. The ensuing blaze damaged all of the restaurant’s fryers and the hood over the cooking area as well as some ceiling tiles.
The restaurant’s staff and a passerby who saw the fire and went to assist them used fire extinguishers to contain and extinguish the blaze. As a result, the fire departments that were dispatched the scene remained there only for an hour getting the smoke out of the building.
Even though the fire was contained to the kitchen, the damage forced the restaurant to temporarily close its doors while repairs were made.
“We had to have a new hood and new fryers and a new ceiling in the kitchen,” Manager Sally Gray said Thursday afternoon.
Once the installation of the new equipment was completed it was time for the restaurant to reopen its doors and that’s just what it did Tuesday, receiving a big welcome back from its customers.
“Everybody is saying ‘Glad you’re back,’ ‘Welcome back,’” Gray said. “We got lot of phone calls and we got a plant from Gwinn’s Florist welcoming us back.”
Despite being closed for five weeks, Gray said the restaurant is functioning smoothly, adding that the staff is as happy as the customers that the restaurant is open again.
“Everybody’s just eager to be back in here and serving our customers and thanking everyone for their patience,” Gray said.
To celebrate the restaurant’s reopening and to further thank the customers for their patience and support, Gray said plans are under way to add some new items to the menu. She said those items will be announced in the near future.
Gray said the restaurant will also have a special on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15. She said the restaurant will be serving sirloin steaks and sirloin tips at special prices.
Andy’s is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
