UNION — Born at 4:43 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, Denim Moorman is the New Year’s baby for 2014 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
At birth, Denim weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He was delivered by Dr. Lee Goldstein.
Denim came as a surprise to his mother, Shaquita, and her family, as she wasn’t due until Jan. 18.
“So we were shocked that he was the New Year’s baby,” Shaquita said.
One person who was ultra excited about Denim’s birth was his two-year-old sister, Jalasia. On Friday afternoon, Jalasia helped her mom change Denim’s diaper as she referred to him as “my baby.”
Wallace Thomson Hospital OB department director BJ McMorris said 2013 was a very good year, and 2014 has started out with a bang. McMorris said business has doubled since 2008, which saw the birth of 64 babies. In 2013, there were 128 babies born at Wallace Thomson, which is a 12 percent increase from 2012.
McMorris said the OB department has been extremely busy over the past month, and there are 20 more babies due this month. She said the physicians deserve a lot of credit.
“We have four great OB doctors that come here — Dr. Goldstein, Dr. Wells, Dr. Jeter, and Dr. Davis,” McMorris said. “They are the best you could want.”
