UNION — One of the first things a customer sees when they walk into Nicole Harmon’s “Personally Yours” shop on Main Street is a quote on the wall from actress Reese Witherspoon.

“My rule is, if it’s not moving, Monogram it.”

That quote could certainly apply to Harmon who started out monogramming her son’s clothes and now operates her own monogramming business.

“I bought a small monogramming machine to monogram my little boy’s clothes and started doing it for other people as well,” Harmon said Tuesday. “Then I had to upgrade machines and just expanded the business.

“I’ve been doing monogramming at home, but then the business kept growing and so we decided to try to do a store with it,” she said. “I’ve been doing it for a year, but the store has only been open since Nov. 30.”

Personally Yours offers an array of clothing items that Harmon either monograms or embroiders for the customers who buy them. Customers can also bring clothing items into the store to be monogrammed or embroidered.

“I do monogramming and embroidery on items in the store or items people bring in,” Harmon said. “We can pretty much monogram anything. We’ve done hats and boots and even car mats.

“We have bags, children’s clothes, scarfs, and hats,” she said. “We also have blank shirts that people can design for themselves. They can tell me the design they want and we can embroider it.”

The children’s clothes the store carries are described by Harmon as “higher end for nicer outings like church. We also have baby shower gifts.”

Harmon said the store also carries jewelry, much of which is made by her and her mother.

Even though its been open just a little over a month, Harmon said the store has kept her quite busy, especially before Christmas.

“We had a very successful Christmas season,” Harmon said. “My husband and I had to stay here 24 hours to finish the Christmas items.”

Harmon said that the store was so busy at Christmas that not only did she have to have help from her husband to get all the orders done in time, but also from her mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

“It became a family affair when we got so backed up,” Harmon said.

As busy as it got and as busy as it may get in the future, Harmon said she loves what she’s doing.

“It started as a hobby but it is now something I really enjoy doing for others,” Harmon said.
