UNION — Main Street in downtown Union was filled with lights, food, fun, music, dance and even horses during Christmas Open House Thursday night.
Christmas Open House is the traditional start of the holiday shopping season for the businesses and merchants of downtown Union who keep their doors open late to accommodate the holiday revelers who arrive to be enjoy the food and entertainment offered and even do a little shopping.
The event, which took place on Main Street between Church and Enterprise streets, drew a large crowd despite the cold weather. In addition to the businesses that kept their doors open to offer revelers treats and prizes as well as opportunities to shop, a number of churches and other groups set up tables along the street selling a variety of items including baked good and other types of food.
There were also musical performances from church and school singing groups and dance performances by the students from local dance schools.
Though the street was closed to automobiles there were horse drawn carriage rides down the length of Main Street.
The evening also saw appearances by Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus.
