UNION — The Union County Junior Charity League plans to build on the success of a recent weekend of fund raising activities with its spring Charity Chase.

League President Letha King announced Thursday that the group’s first fall Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk drew 55 runners to the Timken Sports Complex while its “Cookies with Santa” event at Tabernacle Family Life Center the following day drew 60 children. King said that together the two events raised a total of $4,500 and she thanked everyone whose participation enabled the League to raise those funds.

“The turnout was absolutely wonderful,” King said. “We’d really like to thank everyone that participated and our sponsors. They made all of this possible.”

King said the next fund raising event will be the spring Charity Chase which will be held in April. She said that the funds raised at that time along with those raised from the fall Turkey Trot and Cookies with Santa will be divided by the League between the scholarships it sponsors and the local charities it supports.

In the past, the League has raised funds for Meals on Wheels, the Miracle League of Union County, Relay for Life, and the Union County Carnegie Library. King said that, as in past years, the League will meet in June to decide which charities will receive the funds it has raised this year and divide it accordingly. She said holding the meeting in June allows the League to complete its fund raising activities and accumulate the maximum amount possible.

King added that, regardless of which charities the League decides to contribute to this year, all the funds raised stay in Union County.

Participants in the Turkey Trot were also each asked to bring a can of food. League Public Relations Director Jordan Bright said that a total of 200 cans were collected at the Turkey Trot. She said the food was then donated to The Potters Storehouse.

Runners

The Turkey Trot included an official time system that enabled the runners, who ran along a USA Track and Field certified course, to see their time when they finished.

Bright said the system worked great, allowing runners to see their after their times after they cross the finish line. She said the winners of the race were Reynard Wood (Overall Male), Meka Adams (Overall Female), and Grayson Fallaw (Overall Youth).

The runners and their times were:
