USC Union SGA holds annual Thanksgiving dinner

UNION — The USC Union Student Government Association (SGA) held a Thanksgiving dinner for students, faculty and staff on Tuesday.
SGA President Madacyn Jett said donations collected at the dinner will be donated to The Potter’s Storehouse to help feed the hungry of Union County. Jett said the dinner — held annually at the university — will be the last event for 2013, as the group will have its final 2013 meeting on Dec. 4 to work on the planning of events for next semester.
The next SGA event will be the Spring Fling Social, which is held to welcome students back for the spring semester.
Located in Jonesville, The Potters Storehouse has conducted a food ministry for the past five years and serves 1,800-2,200 families or more than 4,000 people a month. As of the end of October the church’s food ministry had served 47,699 people.
The church will hold its next distribution on Nov. 26. That distribution will be part of its “Put a Turkey on the Table at Thanksgiving” program which provides turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner for needy families.
In addition to those who come to the church’s distributions, volunteers also deliver food to more than 100 clients who are shut-ins or disabled. The church also provides food to First Presbyterian Church in Union for its food ministry and assists Trinity Baptist Church with its food ministry.
