UNION — The Union County Arts Council will sponsor the third Rebecca Penland workshop of this year with the addition of “Painting with Acrylics” this month. Penland has already taught a youth summer workshop using various mediums and a very popular portrait drawing class for UCAC.
“We’re really excited to have Rebecca coming back for a third time,” said UCAC coordinator Jackie Senn. “Her teaching style is wonderful and everybody has a great time with her.”
In an effort to make this class very easy for anyone to take, UCAC has arranged for the fee to cover all materials with the exception of a canvas.
“Sometimes we’ve had artists interested in a workshop, but they don’t sign up because of the cost of supplies,” Senn said. “We’ve completely eliminated that factor by covering the cost of most of the supplies in the registration fee. Workshop attendees will basically just have to show up with a canvas. All paints and brushes will be provided. We can’t make it much simpler.”
The workshop will be based on Penland’s painting “Indian Summer” and will include step-by-step guidance throughout the entire artistic process of creating an acrylic painting.
Space is limited to six participants for the Oct. 19 workshop at the UCAC gallery on Main Street in Union. Class begins at 9:30 a.m., with a break for lunch, before ending at 5 p.m. The workshop fee is $75 for UCAC members and $95 for non-members.
