UNION — The Union County Fairgrounds were filled with people of all ages from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday for the 11th annual Union County Antique Farm Equipment Show.

Antique Farm Equipment Show President Mike Scales called the event an educational experience, and he said those involved try to bring something new to the show each year. Scales said many children have never seen the type of equipment and exhibits featured at the event. He said those involved in the event do not want to see these things slip away without the next generation getting to see them.

Exhibits and demonstrations included antique tractors and other antique farm equipment, blacksmithing, pottery, donkey cart rides, cracking and grinding, wood carving, farm animals, chainsaw art, sassafras tea, woodworking tool collection, a quilting exhibit, black pot peanuts, an old homestead display, a patriotic moment, Farm Bureau Harvest Simulator, an ice cream wagon, ladies/girls frying pan throwing contest, men/boys hammer throw contest, and the ever-popular shelled corn pool.

The event also included a cow milking contest, participants of which included County Supervisor Tommy Sinclair, Union County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kristi Woodall, WBCU Sports Director Bo Rabb, and local celebrity Barbara Rippy. Sinclair won the contest, milking Annabelle the cow in the shortest amount of time.

Other contests included a kids peddle tractor pull contest and an ugly tractor contest.

The final activity of the show was the much-anticipated “Parade of Power,” in which the owners of the antique tractors drove them past a reviewing stand. The model and type of each tractor along — with the name of its owner — were announced as they passed in review.
