SANTUC — A local church will host a free event for its entire community this weekend.
Santuc Community Fun Day will be held from 3-6 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 21, at Salem Baptist Church, 1835 Tinker Creek Road.
Pastor Jim Wiseman said this event is for everyone in the surrounding community.
“We had been talking for awhile on how we could let the rest of the people in our community know that we care for them,” Wiseman said. “How could we show them that God loves each and every one of them? Someone suggested we throw them a party, and that’s what the Santuc Community Fun Day is all about. We’re having a party for all of the people in our neighborhood.”
The event will feature a bounce house; free hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn and drinks; a dunk tank (dunking Pastor Jim); balloon animals; face painting; temporary tattoos; games; and live music from the Cathcart family at 5 p.m. A fire truck from the Santuc Fire Department will be on display for the children. There will also be a door prize giveaway of items donated by local businesses.
Event coordinator Heather Barnado said this Saturday’s event is part of a church outreach project to promote a sense of community and encourage the community to become involved in church life.
“We began an outreach program in the community last year with a clothes giveaway and hot dog lunch,” Barnado said. “The block party is another step in our outreach project. We are a small community church that just wants to share the love of God with others.”
Wiseman said everyone is invited to come and have fun, meet new friends or get reacquainted with old friends.
“We’re hoping and praying that having a party for the neighborhood will show them we do indeed care about them — and that they will see God loves them through us,” he said.
