Closed for Labor Day

UNION COUNTY — Local, state and federal government offices, banks, and educational institutions will be closed Monday for Labor Day.
Labor Day is a federal holiday observed the first Monday in September in honor of American workers and their contributions to society. While it did not become a federal holiday until 1894, Labor Day was already being celebrated as an official holiday in 30 states. The first state to make Labor Day an official holiday was Oregon 1877. Since 1894, all 50 states and the District of Columbia has made Labor Day an official holiday.
One of the features of Labor Day is that government offices are closed for the day along with a number of other institutions. In Union County, all local government offices will be closed Monday including the Union County Courthouse, City of Union Municipal Building, Jonesville Town Hall, Carlisle Town Hall, and Lockhart Town Hall.
State government agencies including the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles, SCWorks, and the S.C. Department of Transportation will also be closed for Labor Day.
Federal agencies including the U.S. Postal Service offices in Union, Jonesville, Carlisle, Buffalo, and Lockhart will also be closed.
Local banks including Arthur State, Provident Community, First Citizens, and Wells Fargo will be closed for the holiday.
The main office and all schools of the Union County School District will be closed as will USC Union.
All these institutions will reopen Tuesday at their regular times as will The Union Daily Times which will also be closed for Labor Day.
