UNION — Although numbers are not yet official, USC Union currently has record-breaking freshman enrollment for this fall 2013 semester.

USC Union Campus Dean Dr. Alice Taylor-Colbert said those at the university anticipated lots of excellent students in this year’s freshman class based on the attendance and enthusiasm expressed during summer orientations.

“USC Union is a great place to get a superior Carolina education,” Taylor-Colbert said. “We give our students personalized attention that means a great deal to them and brings us much pleasure.”

In the fall 2009 semester, the university saw a record enrollment of first-year students at 119. This year, that record will be broken with 124 first-year freshmen enrolled.

“That does not include the 75 juniors and seniors from Union County High School who are taking dual enrollment classes at USC Union,” said USC Union Director of Enrollment Brad Greer.

Greer said he and admissions recruiter Paul Wilkes worked hard this year to recruit as many students as possible, through the utilization of recruiting mail and visits to surrounding high schools. Greer also said the university placed more emphasis on marketing to potential students and the local community over the past year.

Taylor-Colbert said she had a chance to meet a number of dedicated students — of all ages and backgrounds — during a “Welcome Back” student event held at the university last Wednesday.

“USC Union is a model for all institutions seeking to build a community of learners and leaders who never settle for second best in life,” she said. “Instead, our students seek new challenges and opportunities. I predict that this freshman class will achieve more in their lifetimes than any of us dreamed when we went off to college. It’s a Bantam world!”

Look for official USC Union enrollment numbers and totals as they become available in The Union Daily Times and at www.uniondailytimes.com.
