UNION COUNTY — Several Health Science students from the Union County Career Technology and Education Center were able to take a field trip to The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) located in Spartanburg. Mrs. Pendleton and Mrs. Jolly’s students were able to tour the facilities as well as participate and several hands-on activities.
While at VCOM, students took part in the simulation lab where they were able to take the blood pressure, check pulse rate, and practice CPR on the manikins. They also participated in the osteopathic manipulative medicine where they learned and practiced relieving a tension headache without medication by using their hands. The students were also able to listen and ask questions to a panel of VCOM’s students.
The very last part of the tour was the cadaver lab, where students were able to hold a human brain, spinal cord, heart, and view what is inside of their bodies!
