Upcoming Local Events
The Community Wide thanksgiving Service will be Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church on Main Street. The service is hosted by the Whitmire Ministerial Association.
The Whitmire Jaycees have announced dates for the Christmas Parade — Dec. 14 at noon. Line up is at 11 a.m. on Owens Avenue, which is formerly Rail Road Avenue and Broad Street, which is formerly North Main Street.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony will be Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the west end of Main Street. The Jaycees will serve refreshments and the WCS Band and Chorus will provide music.
The annual Christmas Cheer Fund Sign Up will be Nov. 15 from 8-11 a.m. then from 2-5 p.m. at the new Town Hall Annex. Sizes, ages and genders of children are need.

Economic Development Board
Whitmire has a newly appointed Economic Development Board. The board is comprised of Whitmire residents who have volunteered their time to meet and plan Whitmire community events, share ideas and attend Town Council meetings to give updates of their meetings. There is a new excitement about the calendar of events they have planned for 2014.
The members of Sims Chapel Baptist Church say Thank You to Mayor Billy Hollingsworth and his wife Ruth, along with Newberry County Council Member Scott Cain and his wife Cathy. The couples attended The Fall Harvest and Senior Ministry Banquet and Recognition Day during the Oct. 26-27 weekend.
Church and community members recognized the Seniors, and enjoyed guest speakers: Pastor Sandra Worthy,and Soloist Elizabeth Sartor. Honorary Guest Recognition to Pastor Dolphus Rayford. David and JoAnn Sligh escorted guests to the elegantly decorated dining area in the church social hall.
According to member Emma Jeter” We are so thankful and appreciative to all who attended and participated.” She added, “We had over 50 guests to attend.”
