Hello and Happy Halloween everyone!

Whitmire had a really busy day Saturday, October 26. The last Saturday in October has been Whitmire “Official” Halloween Day and it kicked off with a brisk fall early morning tee time golf tourney at The Whitmire Golf Course.

Late afternoon, I heard from Whitmirian Martin Miller as we were walking down Gilliam Street to the park for the concert shout “Hey Cassie, our team won the tourney today.”

That’s a big yes, and a thank you to all golfers who participated in the tourney.

Concert

The Mill Billy Blues Band gave an incredible performance at The Strand Theater.

The final act in the TERA Fall Concert Series, The Mill Billy Blues Band is comprised of musicians from Union and Spartanburg. The group’s roots are steeped in traditional blues, and the eclectic blend of Blues, Country, Folk/ Americana is played to perfection.

Music Lover and Blues Series sponsors David and Elizabeth Claytor from Chester made the trip through Sumter National Forest to Heritage Park. True Blues aficionados, the couple fell in love with our amphitheater, the stage and the unique music of Mill Billy Blues. In fact, both stated “they will definitely come back for more concerts and bring a van full of Chester folks!”

All in all it was an outstanding concert series.

Jon Durham – TERA Coordinator — and the TERA Volunteers did a fantastic job organizing the first of its kind in Whitmire. The sponsors included Roche’s Pharmacy, The Piggly Wiggly, Radio Station WNCW-FM 88.7, Southeastern Wildlife & Property Services.

Halloween Carnival

After the concert, I walked over to the city gym for a few pics of the Halloween Carnival.

At opening time, a line of adults and kids were 20-30 deep, waiting to get their tickets to ride. Booster Club members Laura Kendrick and Lana Barnett greeted the folks and handled the ticket sales at the door.Martha Suber handled the emcee and music duties, including the cake walk, door prize and costume contest winners.

Several WCS Coaches “got wet in the dunking booth.” Meaning one of the longest running indoor games is the “Dunk The Coach”

The carnival also had outdoor inflatable rides and games. The music flowed as did the Halloween colored cupcakes and hotdogs.

This was the Booster Clubs’ biggest fundraiser of the year. It has always been a well organized event, drawing plenty of out of town guests.

Allrighty readers, a close one with The Deadline Fairy Garabund, lets wrap it up for this week and we’ll do the birthday wishes next week. Until then Happy Halloween again and feel free to send your newsbits to: news2cassie@yahoo.com
