Mr. Slayton said in a recent phone conversation that he “sure missed driving to Roche’s Pharmacy in Whitmire to get his medicines, seeing and talking with John Roche Jr. and the friendly staff and all of his Whitmire friends.”
On a sad note, we send our sympathies and best wishes to the families of Mrs. Linda Prather Knight, and former Whitmire resident Mrs. Laurie Ann Bostic Myers.

Congratulations to Kelcey Felks. Kelcey scored a total of 40 points in the recent Tournament of Roses AAU Basketball. Kelcey played on the 8th grade levels and her team/district took 1st place. Kelsey, an 8th grader at Newberry Middle School, is the granddaughter of Emma Jeter Of Whitmire.
Congratulations to The Whitmire Community Schools Baseball and girls softball team are having a great season so far.
Congratulations to Albert Robertson of Whitmire. Albert was voted Lexington District One’s Teacher of The Year.
Upcoming events include The Whitmire Economic Development Boards ’ “Blooms For Mom” on May 10 at The Whitmire Community Center. The event starts at 10 a.m., and will feature Mary Kay Makeovers for Mom, fresh flowers and plants for sale, arts and crafts offering nice gifts for Mom. Contact board members on their Facebook page.
The big summer event will include a Saturday, July 19 Veterans Parade and Celebration on Main Street. This event will include a classic car show, plus music, crafts and lots of family fun.
The Whitmire Jaycees recently held their successful annual Easter Egg Hunt at Heritage Park April 13. The Jaycees have also announced the dates for the Party In The Pines Festival, June 12, 13 and 14. The PIP Fest is a nightly festival, with carnival rides for kids, music and various foods.
This year’s entertainment will be local, with Gospel Music on Thursday night, a deejay for dancing, The Mattie Phifer Band for Blues, the “WCS Kids Got Talent” and on Saturday night, Nashville recording artist Cody Webb, formerly of South Carolina.

According to Whitmire Recreation Coordinator Joey Dillard, “this season is a big one for baseball and softball sign ups. We have a good number of youth who have signed up.” The new volleyball court near The Legends Stadium and Whitmire Golf Course should be ready for play in a couple of months.
