UNION — A Union businesswoman who has been an Avon representative for nearly a half-century was recently recognized by the company as one of its top representatives and rewarded with a trip to Puerto Rico.
In a statement released by the company Thursday afternoon, it was announced that “Avon Representative Linda Lou Keith from Union has been recognized by Avon Products, Inc. as one of the beauty company’s top Representatives in the US. In honor of this recognition, the company awarded Keith along with other top Avon Representatives at the company an experiential trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate their success during the annual President’s Recognition Program Celebration.”
Avon’s President’s Recognition Program Celebration (PRPC) is an annual event, bringing together the nation’s top achieving Representatives who have distinguished themselves as top performers in Sales or Leadership.
“I’m so proud of the extraordinary Avon Representatives who have achieved this distinctive honor, and was excited to celebrate with them in Puerto Rico,” says Eddie Silcock, Vice President, Avon North America Sales. “Linda Lou truly embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that has been at the heart of Avon for many years, demonstrating first-hand how Avon Representatives can achieve economic empowerment, financial freedom, and the opportunity to lead a team and mentor others.”
In recognition of their success, the elite group of Avon Representatives celebrated their accomplishments with a five-day, four-night trip to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico from June 23-27. During their trip, they enjoyed guided tours of Old San Juan including the San Juan National Historic Site of Castillo San Cristóbal, as well as leisurely time to relax by the Rio Mar Beach Resort’s lush 500-acre beachfront. They were also recognized for their achievements with a Gala Recognition Dinner, hosted by Avon Executives.
Keith, who in addition to being an Avon representative is the owner and operator of Linda’s Variety Shop, said that the trip to Puerto Rico was the 23rd one Avon has sent her on in recognition of her success as a sales representative.
“You have sell 112,000 products in one year to win the trip,” Keith said Friday morning. “The trips are all expenses paid and they give you spending money. They let you take one paying guest with you and I take my twin sister, Brenda Sue Keith.
“Over the years I’ve been on a cruise to Alaska,” she said. “I’ve been to Canada. I’ve been to New Orleans twice. I’ve been to Hawaii three times. I’ve been to the Bahamas. I’ve been to New York. I’ve been to Mississippi. I’ve been to Las Vegas twice.”
Keith, who is already working on winning her 24th trip, has been with Avon for nearly a half-century.
“I’ve been with them going on 48 years now,” Keith said. “I sell out of my store and out on my routes. I have routes in Union, Jonesville, Whitmire, and Newberry.”
Keith said she began selling Avon when she was a teenager with the goal of earning enough money to buy a car.
“I was 17 at the time and still in high school,” Keith said. “I started out walking and walked every where I went. My goal was to get a car and I got it and then I started driving and my goal then was to get a mobile home.”
Keith said that setting goals for herself, together with her love of what she does has been the key to her success.
“You’ve got to have a goal in life,” Keith said. “Having a goal makes you successful.
“I enjoy what I do, I love people,” she said. “You’ve got to be a people person. You’ve got to love the product, you’ve got to love what you’re doing. I’m a really good sales person.”
Since 1991, Keith has also operated Linda’s Variety Store, 907 S. Duncan Bypass, Union, where she sells a variety of items including Watkins Products, Rawleigh Products, Maurice’s BBQ Sauce, Happy Home Flavoring, pocket books, jewelry, oil lamps, canned drinks, and some produce.
Linda’s Variety Shop is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
In addition to selling Avon and operating her variety shop, Keith also operates Carter’s Small Engines, a lawn mower shop, 2318 Whitmire Highway, Union, from 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
“I love to get up and go to work,” Keith said.
