UNION — The University of South Carolina Union is the perfect fit to start your college experience. We offer classe at our main campus in Union or at our new location in Laurens.

Application deadline for Fall 2014 is Friday, Aug. 15 and classes will begin on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Our lab manager/instructor, Dr. Helene Maire-Afeli, believes that USC Union is a perfect match for her!

Dr. Maire-Afeli is from Nice (pronounced Neece), France and resides in Columbia, SC now. She has a five year old son and one beta fish. Dr. Maire-Afeli graduated from Kansas State University in 2008 with a PhD. in Analytical Chemistry. She also has a BS in Chemistry with biochemistry, biology and human nutrition. In other words, she likes science!

You can usually find her in the labs in the Main Building of USC Union. When asked what she brings to USC Union, she states, “I bring twelve years’ experience teaching at a college level, subject matter expertise, continuous professional development, multicultural/multilingual background, and let’s face it…I am fun!”

She likes the fact that she can make a difference in students lives by helping them achieve their academic goals. Dr. Maire-Afeli states, “demain est un autre jour,” which translates into “Tomorrow is another day.”

Dr. Maire-Afeli will be teaching Chemistry 101: Fundamental Chemistry and Chemistry 111: General Chemistry this coming Fall semester and the labs that coincide with the course.
