UNION — A man charged with killing his stepmother and a man being held on drug charges are being sought by law enforcement after escaping from the Union County Jail this afternoon.
In a statement released a short time ago, Union County Sheriff David Taylor announced that Ashley Tyler and Kenneth Steven Lipsey Jr. had escaped from the jail around 4 p.m.
Tyler, 40, is charged with murder in the Nov. 19, 2015 shooting death of his stepmother, Rebecca Tyler, who was shot three times at her home on River Road. He is also charged with sex offender registry violation, probation violation, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Lipsey, 18, is charged with possession of meth.
Deputies formed a perimeter around the area and began searching for Tyler and Lipsey. Taylor requested the assistance of other law enforcement agencies including asking SLED to send in its helicopter and K-9 Unit.
