Kelly-Kelton seeking new chief


Department now accepting resumés

KELLY-KELTON — The Kelly Kelton Fire Department is looking to a hire a new fire chief.

An announcement released by Kelly Kelton Fire District Board member Greta Bailey, states that the “Kelly Kelton Volunteer Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of Fire Chief. Kelly Kelton Fire Department is a volunteer department created by ordinance of Union County Council. The department is overseen by a six member Board of Fire Control made up of district residents appointed by Union County Council.”

The Kelly Kelton Fire Department does not currently have a fire chief but has instead been overseen by an interim fire chief since April.

The announcement states that the “Board seeks to appoint a Chief with a minimum of 5 years experience in Fire Service and be Certified as Firefighter I (FFII Certification is preferred).” It further states that an applicant “must also be an active firefighter in good standing with the SC Fire Academy. Must have the ability to effectively command an active fire scene. Will be required to possess superior management and supervision skills, knowledge of OSHA and NFPA guidelines, experience in grant writing and administration as well as the ability to restructure the department and improve services for the residents in our area. The board would prefer to appoint a Chief who lives within the district.”

The announcement also states that the fire chief “will be responsible for maintaining the buildings and equipment, recruitment and retention of new firefighters and ensure they are trained properly, developing and implementing a structured training and safety program, achieving and maintaining good working relationships with other fire departments within the County, and all other general duties of the department. The chief will be required to make detailed reports to the board at meeting consisting of the needs of the departments and the cost associated with those needs.”

In addition to these requirements, the announcement states that applicants must be willing to submit a criminal background check, as well as a motor vehicle records check.”
