Train collides with 18-wheeler

BONHAM — An 18-wheeler was cut in two by a train at the intersection of Sonoco Road and the Jonesville Highway (SC 18) this afternoon.

The collision occur ed shortly after 12 p.m., but while the trailer being pulled by the truck was cut in two no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Several emergency response agencies were dispatched the scene including the Jonesville Fire Department, Union County EMS, Union County Rescue Squad, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff David Taylor said that DHEC and Union County Emergency Management were subsequently dispatched to the scene after it as discovered the collision had caused a fuel leak from the train.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
