Seven file to run in November

UNION COUNTY — A total of seven candidates have filed to run in the November general election for the Union County Board of School Trustees, Union City Council, and Mayor of the Town of Carlisle.

The Nov. 8 general election ballot in Union County will include races for mayor and council in Union and Carlisle; for seats on the governing boards of the Santuc, Monarch, Jonesville, and Southside fire districts; and for seats on the Union County Board of School Trustees. Filing for these races opened this Friday at noon and will close 30 days later at noon on Aug. 15. All of these races are nonpartisan.

School Board

Four seats on the Union County Board of School Trustees will be on the ballot in the November general election, among them the seats representing Districts 2 and 6.

Union County Voter Registrar Darlene Pettit said Friday afternoon that the following candidates had filed to run for the following seats:

• District 2 — Charles Lott Sr., Greg Addison, and Mark Ivey

• District 6 — Frank M. Hart

In addition to the Districts 2 and 6 seats, the Districts 1 and 7 seats will also be on the November ballot.

The seats are currently held by Trustee Betty McMorris (District 1), Trustee Jantzen Childers (District 2), Trustee Kakie White (District 6) and Trustee Manning Jeter (District 7).

Persons wanting to run for these seats must file with the Union County Voter Registrar’s Office. Candidates for these seats do not have to pay a filing fee to have their names placed on the ballot in those districts.

City of Union

In the City of Union, voters will go to the polls in November to elect the mayor and three members of the Union City Council in Districts 3, 4, and 6.

Municipal Clerk Gloria Rogers said Friday that the following candidates had filed to run for the following city council seat:

• District 3 — Vicki Morgan and Jack Kelly

The city council seats are currently held by Councilman Yates Giles (District 3), Councilman Ricky Harris (District 4), and Councilman Jim Wilson (District 6).

The Office of Mayor is currently by Mayor Harold Thompson. No candidates had filed to run for mayor as of Friday afternoon, but District 1 Councilman Tommy Anthony has announced that he will be a candidate for mayor.

Persons wanting to run for mayor or for one of the council seats on the ballot must file to do so at the Municipal Clerk’s Office in the City of Union Municipal Building. Mayoral candidates must pay a $600 filing fee while candidates for city council must pay a $100 fee in order to have their names placed on the municipal ballot.

Town of Carlisle

In the Town of Carlisle, voters will go to the polls in November to elect the mayor and two members of the Carlisle Town Council.

Administrator Shannon McBride said Friday that Ann Stevens had filed to run for mayor.

The Office of Mayor is currently held by Mayor Mary Fergson-Glenn while the council seats are currently held council members Ronnie Lyles and Maxine Spencer.

Persons wanting to run for mayor or for one of the council seats on the ballot must file to do so at the Municipal Clerk’s Office at the Carlisle Town Hall. Mayoral candidates must pay a $125 filing fee while candidates for town council must pay a $75 filing fee in order to have their names placed on the municipal ballot.

Fire Districts

A total of 10 seats in four fire districts will also be on the ballot in the November general election.

• Santuc Fire District — Three seats on the governing fire board currently held by Albert Gregory, Eddie Hines, and Nancy Richardson.

• Monarch Fire District — Three seats the governing fire board currently held by Brad Jolly, Donald “Snake” Robinson, and Larry Robinson.

• Jonesville Fire District — Two seats on the governing fire board currently held by James Harvey Jr. and John Vaughan.

• Southside Fire District — Two seats on the governing fire board currently held by Mark Smith and Russell Trammell.

Persons wanting to run for these seats must file with the Union County Voter Registrar’s Office. Candidates for these seats do not have to pay a filing fee to have their names placed on the ballot in those districts.

District Lines

Persons interested in running for school board should check with the Union County Voter Registrar’s Office first before filing to run to see if they are in the district they are planning to run in. This is because district lines for all nine school board seats have changed since the last election.
