JONESVILLE — An investigation into the burglary of a house in the Jonesville area in late June resulted in the arrest of two men and the recovery of more than $5,000 in stolen property.
In a statement released Monday, Union County Sheriff David Taylor announced the arrest of Hughie Todd Haire, 42, 102 2nd St., Union, and Michael Cleveland Trantham, 30, 126 Lancaster Road, Jonesville. He said that his office has charged both Haire and Trantham with burglary first-degree and grand larceny.
Taylor said that Haire and Trantham were arrested as a result of an investigation into the burglary of a residence on the T Bishop Road in the Jonesville area. He said that deputies were dispatched to the incident scene on June 22 and were told by the homeowner that someone had broken into his house sometime between June 18 and that day. Taylor said the homeowner told deputies that someone had gained entry into his home and his garage and that several items were missing. He said the homeowner said that the stolen items had an estimated total value of approximately $13,500 and that approximately $300 worth of damage had been done to his property during the break-in.
Taylor said that the ensuing investigation lead to the arrests of Haire and Trantham on Monday and the recovery of $5,250 worth of the stolen items.
Even with Monday’s arrests, however, Taylor said the investigation into the incident is continuing and that additional arrests could be made. He said that investigators are actively seeking additional information about the incident and are working to locate the remaining missing items.
