Community Prayer Meeting

The Community Prayer Meeting will be observed at noon on Thursday, July 7 at the USC Union gazebo. Please come and join with fellow citizens of Union County, and with others in other places as we pray for our country, our community, our state, and also for our world, and for the Church.

Let us give thanks for our country as we celebrate our 240th birthday, and pray fervently for its future. Pray for God’s guidance in the elections this year and pray for our current leaders. Please pray for our military, our police, EMS personnel, and others who risk their lives to serve and protect us.

All are welcome. If you can’t get to the gazebo, please take some time for special prayer during the day.

July At The UCAC

The following activities and events are taking place at the Union County Arts Council in July.

Painting with Coffee — Whether you are a beginner, or a lifelong artists join us every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.!

Jam at Lunch — Do you have lunch plans? Join us Thursday, July 7, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.! Enjoy the musical talents of local members of our community. Do you sing? Play? Feel free to join in!

Writers Group — Local Writers will meet Tuesday, July 12, at 6 p.m. This is open to everyone!

Toddler Time — Friday, July 22, 10:30-11:30 a.m. will be all about the little ones! Any child 4 years old or younger is invited to join us! $10.

Artistic Science Camp — What do science and art have in common? Join us at camp to find out! Our students will spend the week creating everything from crystal letters to magnetic slime!

The camp will be July 11-15, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each day.

It is for children in Kindergarten-2nd grade.

Cost is $35 for members/$40 for non-members.

Lunch will be provided

Abstract Adventure — Campers will explore the world of abstract art while creating their own! A 3D project, a mason jar abstract, and a canvas painting are just a few of the things our students will create!

The camp will be from July 18-22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

It is for the children in the 3rd-5th grades.

Cost is $35 for members/$40 for non-members.

Lunch will be provided

First Encounter — Photographer George Ligon is bringing his work back to Union County Arts Council. After spending 15 days on Safari, Mr Ligon has produced an exhibit that will allow all of Union County the ability to have a “First Encounter” with the wildlife of Kenya. We inite everyone to visit this extraordinary show!

Reception Date: August 4 from 5-7 p.m.UCHS Hall Of Fame Nominations Sought

The Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations of individuals to be considered for the UCHS Hall of Fame.

If you would like to nominate an individual from any of the county’s former high schools, please do so by contacting Mike McGee by phone at 864-429-1765, Extension 16, or email mmcgee_lhs@union.k12.sc.us. You should provide the name and mailing address of the nominee.

The deadline for nominations to be considered this year is Aug. 26.

Jonesville Town Festival

The Jonesville Town Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 from noon-9 p.m. We are looking for vendors, musical groups, dance groups and singers. Free Summer Lunch And Activities Program

The Town of Carlisle will be offering a Summer Lunch & Activities Program including a field trip and swimming for children ages 18 and under in June and July.

The program will be held at the Carlisle Town Hall from June 8-July 28, Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the first Tuesday of each month at Grace United Methodist Church at 5:30 p.m.

Friends On Main

Friends on Main will continue to open from 10 a.m-1 p.m. during the month of June. Special during the month will be 5 paperbacks for $1. Hardbacks are $1 and teen/children’s books are 25 cents! Bring a box and shop!

Post 22 To Improve 2016 Baseball Team

Union American Legion Post 22 is currently working on much-needed improvements for their 2016 baseball team. Changes will be made from top to bottom, and will go back to the 1925 roots of American Legion Baseball, teaching “young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health, and active citizenship.” This quote is from the historical article at www.legion.org/baseball/history

Legion Post 22 is currently looking for enthused volunteers to help carry the proud tradition of American Legion baseball forward in Union County. If you love baseball and working with teenagers, or just like helping out in your community, and are able to contribute in any way at all, please consider volunteering. There are many ways to contribute your time, from being one of the coaches for the regular or junior teams, to just helping out for a few hours at a time. Bereavement Program

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.

The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floor of Austin Rehab.

Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

Facilitators are Rev. Richard Brown, Chaplain; Kanisha Benjamin, Social Worker.
