UNION COUNTY — A motorist killed in an April 30 automobile accident has finally been identified.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, Union County Deputy Coroner John Fallaw announced that DNA testing at the headquarters of SLED and further analysis by Newberry Pathology Associates had identified the victim as Newberry resident Alexus Lashaye White. Fallaw said that White, 20, was a student at Winthrop University and was traveling home from school when the accident occurred.

The crash that killed White occurred around 3:46 p.m. Saturday, April 30 on SC 72 near Jeter Chapel Road in the Carlisle area of Union County. At the time of the accident White was traveling west in a Nissan four-door when the vehicle ran off the road six miles east of the Town of Whitmire, crashed into some trees and burst into flames.

According to the SC Highway Patrol, White was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The report by the SCHP states that when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road the driver over-corrected, ran off the left side of the road and crashed.
