UNION COUNTY — For the second time in a week the Union County Coroner’s Office and the SC Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal car crash.
In a statement released Thursday, Union County Coroner William Holcombe said that his office and the SCHP are investigating a single-motor vehicle accident that occurred around 4:25 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of SC 9 and SC 49 in Lockhart.
Holcombe said that the driver, Robert P. Dansby, Jr., 81, 3647 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, was transported by Union County EMS to the Union Medical Center Emergency Room where he died.
An autopsy was performed on Dansby’s body later that morning at Newberry Pathology Associates which Holcombe said determined that Dansby died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries suffered in the accident.
Thursday’s incident was the second fatal car crash to occur in Union County this week.
On Monday, a car traveling on SC 56 in the Enoree area was involved in a single-vehicle accident when it ran off the road, went down an embankment, flipped over and collided with a tree.
The driver, Rhonda M. Bellew, 30, of Union, was injured and transported by Union County EMS to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Killed in the accident was Leroy Dean Davis, 34, 1001 Jones Ford Road, Union, who was riding in the front passenger seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither Bellew nor Davis were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Davis’ body Tuesday morning. Holcombe said Friday that the autopsy determined that Davis died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries suffered in the accident.
