UNION COUNTY — In a special meeting Monday afternoon the Union County Board of School Trustees approved a field trip request but deadlocked over a personnel report.
The board voted unanimously to accept a recommendation by Union County School District Chief Academic Officer Cindy Langley that it approve an overnight field trip for five band students.
The students — two at Union County High School and three at Sims Middle School — will travel to Nation Ford High School where they will perform in the SC Region 3 Honor Band Clinic.
The Band Clinic will be Thursday, Feb. 23 and Friday, Feb. 24.
The board spent most of Monday’s meeting in executive session discussing the personnel report.
When they came out of executive session, the board voted on the personnel report. The vote was a 4-4 tie which means the report was rejected. Following their vote, the board asked for more information about the recommendation in the report before its next meeting.
Voting no were trustees Frank M. Hart, Manning Jeter, BJ McMorris, and Mark Ivey.
Voting yes were trustees Gene “Doc” Lipsey, Mike Massey, Wanda All, and Jane Hammett.
Absent from Monday’s meeting was Trustee Jane Wilkes.
