UNION COUNTY — The Union County Sheriff’s Office received a donation in return for serving as the primary sponsor for the 2015 Community Directory published by The Union Daily Times.

On Thursday, Sheriff David Taylor was presented with a check for $750 to benefit the UCSO in appreciation for the UCSO sponsoring this year’s Community Directory. As the primary sponsor, the first story in the directory — titled “From Moonshine to Computer Crime” — featured photos and information about the UCSO, chronicling the office’s history, highlighting its recent accomplishments and detailing constant efforts for improvement.

As the primary sponsor of the directory, the UCSO was to receive a portion of revenue from each advertisement sold.

Donna McMurray, Advertising Representative for The Union Daily Times, discussed why the sheriff’s office was chosen as the primary sponsor.

“We always think of the sheriff’s office as people who risk their lives to help us, but we don’t always think about them needing help and support, too,” McMurray said. “During the time the sheriff’s office was chosen for this, police were getting negative attention nationwide, and we wanted to remind people how much good our local sheriff’s office does — and has done — for the community.”

McMurray also pointed out that all county offices have had to tighten budgets with recent countywide cuts, and this was a way to support one of those offices which serves every citizen on a daily basis.

Copies of the 2015 Community Directory are still available at The Union Daily Times office — located at 100 Times Blvd., Union — and at any of the directory’s sponsors including the Union County Sheriff’s Office, State Farm, Union County Advanced Technology Center, Walmart, The City of Union, Broad River Electric Cooperative, Davis Services, Henderson Tree Expert and University of South Carolina Upstate.
