UNION — The Internet has revolutionized how the world communicates, so much so that some people are feeling left behind and that’s where a basic computer skills class offered by USC Union can help.

The “Learn Basic Computer Skills” is described by a flyer advertising the class as a “two evening course designed for entry-level users.”

The course is being taught the first night USC Union IT Specialist Keith Camp and the second night by USC Union Continuing Education Coordinator Bill Moore.

Moore said Thursday that the goal of the class is to help those who feel left behind by computer technology and the Internet.

“In Union we find a lot of people who feel left behind by technology, especially the computer,” Moore said. “In many cases, but not all, it is older folks who feel left behind by the technology.”

Moore said that many of these people would like to use their computers and the Internet for their own pursuits and to stay in touch with their families.

“A lot of people have hobbies and they want to be able to go online and find information, but don’t know how to,” Moore said. “They want to keep in contact with friends and family via email, but don’t know how.”

Moore said the Learn Basic Computer Skills class can help them learn the basic skills of how to use their computer and the Internet. He said over the course of the two evenings the class will be taught, students will learn:

• How to access the Internet

• How to create and send an email.

• How to save and attach pictures and documents.

• Basic overview of MS Word including including how to create, save, attach and access Word documents.

The class will be held Monday, Aug. 10 and Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the USC Union Library Computer Room in the Central Building at 309 E. Academy St., Union.

The cost for the two nights of instruction is $50.

To register call Bill Moore at 864-424-8037 or email moorebil@mailbox.sc.edu.

Moore said that persons who want to attend but do not register and pay their instruction fee in advance may do so Monday evening.
