UNION COUNTY — An expanded digital presence on the Internet and stronger relationships with the local business community are the goals of The Union Daily Times’ new general manager.

David L. Spencer has been appointed General Manager of The Union Daily Times by the newspaper’s owner, Civitas Media, and has been serving in the position since July 23.

Spencer has worked for Civitas Media in various roles. In 2011, he started as a Business Development Representative at the Robesonian in Lumberton, NC. In 2014 he relocated to Portsmouth, Ohio to coordinate Digital Media Sales for Civitas Media locations in Southern OH, WV, TN and KY.

With his appointment as General Manager of The Union Daily Times, Spencer’s career with Civitas has come full circle, bringing him back to the Carolinas. He said Monday that he is quite happy to be in Union County and has been received warmly by the local community.

“I’m excited to be part of The Times, I’m excited to be her,” Spencer said. “The people I’ve met so far have been really welcoming and inviting.”

As General Manager, Spencer said his responsibilities are to build up advertising in The Union Daily Times and the revenue it generates for the newspaper and to build strong relationships with local and area businesses.

To achieve those goals, Spencer said he wants to see The Union Daily Times enhance its presence on the Internet and improve communication and cooperation with the community.

“I want to see stronger digital growth,” Spencer said. “I want to have a more open door policy with the community to see how we can help them accomplish their goals. I am here to serve.”

Spencer is a graduate of NC Central University holding a B.A. in Ethno-Musicology. He also holds a Masters in Entertainment Business from Fullsail University. His hobbies include singing, producing music, and spending time with his family. David’s wife, Tiffany, and he are the proud parents of Daveah and David Jr.
