MONARCH — Monarch Elementary School is pleased to announce the new officers of the school’s student government for the 2016-2017 school.

In a statement released late week, Monarch Elementary School announced that the following students had been elected by their peers to the following offices in the school’s student government:

• Student Council Officers — Tanner Hardin (President), Garrett Ponder Vice President, and Michaela Purdie (Secretary).

• Fifth Grade Student Council Representatives — Gordon Noah, Caylee Lawson, Emily Comer, Jaylon Salter, Owen Gregory, and Gabe Jordan.

• Fourth Grade Student Council Representatives — Sara Hart, Jolene West, Reagan Turner, Davis Rochester, Mekki Young, Cade Coker, and Mason Cromer.

• Third Grade Student Council Representatives — Libby Hardin, Melle Ponder, Gracie Crawford, Kyleigh Roark, Zoeie Smith, and Treveon Shorter.

• Fifth Grade Student Council Ambassadors — Norah Greer, Kaitylyn Gist, and Luke Rector.

The announcement states that, in the offices to which they have been elected, these students will help plan activities for Monarch Elementary that will help students and Union County. Under the supervision of fifth grade teacher Mrs. Ginnie Ponder, they will assist in fund raising for March of Dimes and local food banks. The students will also assist in awards programs and special events.

The press release concludes by offering “Congratulations to these special Monarch Star Student Council Leaders!”
