UNION — The Union County Carnegie Library has always had lots of fun things to read, but now it has lots of fun things to play as those attending Family Game Day found out much to their delight.

If you went to the library on the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 4 you’d have seen children — and, in some cases, adults — playing board games such as “Candy Land,” “Uno,” “Trouble,” and even checkers with oversized checkers. Others were playing more physical games such as “Twister” while others were playing computer games.

Those and other indoor games, along with outdoor games such as basketball and flag football, were all part of Family Day Day, an event designed to introduce the public to the games the library is now offering patrons who wish to enjoy some play time was well as read books and magazines and do online research and study.

“Family Game Day is an opportunity for people to come together and be introduced to the games we have in a fun and positive way,” Library Director Rieta Drinkwine said. “We have board and other indoor games and we have outdoor games such as basketball with a hoop out back people can play and enjoy.”

In addition to the games already mentioned, the indoor games now available at the library include “Battleship,” “Hungry Hungry Hippo,” “Lets Go Fishing,” and “Sorry.” There is also an X Box and games such as “Rock Band.”

Outdoor games in addition to those already mentioned include “Bocce Ball,” “Ring Toss,” “Yard Darts,” and “Corn Hole.”

For more information about the games and their availability call the Union County Carnegie Library at 864-427-7140, Ext. 302.
