UNION — Reading is a rewarding experience as the winners of the Union County Carnegie Library’s Adult Summer Reading program learned earlier this month.

The Union County Carnegie Library held its Adult Summer Reading Program finale on Thursday, April 21. The theme for this year’s adult program was “Exercise your mind. Read!” and the adult section of the library was adorned with sports and football decorations in celebration of the theme. The adult program included picture puzzles, treats for checking out select movies, and small treats when particular books were checked out throughout the program.

The main part of the adult program was the reading contest, which involved weekly prize drawings for participants. At the end of the program, the top three readers were determined and awarded Walmart gift cards. The winners were:

1st Place — Linda Tucker

2nd Place — Evelyn Coker

3rd Place (a tie) — Brenda Kershaw, Ashton Ward

The grand prize winner of a Tablet was Iratha Ivey. Prizes and refreshments were graciously provided by the following local businesses:

• Burger King

• Embroidery by Karen

• Friends of the Library

• Gwinn’s Florist

• McDonald’s

• NAPA of Union

• Sanders Garden Center

• State Farm — Ashley Turner

• Subway

• Walmart

The library would like to thank all participants and businesses for a great summer of reading!
