Charles Warner | The Union Times Union Public Safety Director Sam White leads those attending the July 15 “Union County Unity Rally” in the Pledge of Allegiance. White was one of a number of local officials and members of the clergy who took part in the rally which sought to bring together people from all walks of life in Union County to promote unity and hope. The event was held on the steps of the Union County Courthouse.


First Steps Meeting

The Union County First Steps Partnership Board will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 1 at 12 p.m. at the Union County Schools District Office Annex located at 120 Lakeside Drive in Union. The public is invited to attend.

Anyone wishing to attend that requires special assistance due to a disability is encouraged to contact Mrs. Catherine M. Childers, Executive Director at 864-429-1740, Ext. 134 prior, to the start of the meeting.

Fall Charity Golf Classic

The Union County Health Care Foundation will hold its annual Fall Charity Golf Classic at Woodfin Ridge on Oct. 7. The event will be a Captain’s Choice Tournament. Persons wanting to participate must register to do so by Sept. 30. July At The UCAC

The following activities and events are taking place at the Union County Arts Council in July.

Painting with Coffee — Whether you are a beginner, or a lifelong artists join us every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.!

First Encounter — Photographer George Ligon is bringing his work back to Union County Arts Council. After spending 15 days on Safari, Mr Ligon has produced an exhibit that will allow all of Union County the ability to have a “First Encounter” with the wildlife of Kenya. We invite everyone to visit this extraordinary show!

Exhibit Dates: July 8-August 18

Reception Date: August 4 from 5-7 p.m.

UCHS Hall Of Fame Nominations Sought

The Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations of individuals to be considered for the UCHS Hall of Fame.

If you would like to nominate an individual from any of the county’s former high schools, please do so by contacting Mike McGee by phone at 864-429-1765, Extension 16, or email mmcgee_lhs@union.k12.sc.us. You should provide the name and mailing address of the nominee.

The deadline for nominations to be considered this year is Aug. 26.

Jonesville Town Festival

The Jonesville Town Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 from noon-9 p.m. We are looking for vendors, musical groups, dance groups and singers. Car Show

The Jonesville Town Festival committee is looking for someone that might would be interested in doing a car show for the Festival which will take place on Sept. 17.

Tuesday, Aug. 2

The Union County Beekeepers Association will meet at 6 p.m. in the Clemson Extension Meeting Room at the fairgrounds.

Light refreshments are served at 6 p.m. and program begins at 6:30 p.m.

Brandon Dietz the 2015 SC Junior Beekeeper will present a program on Commercial Pollination.

Everyone interested in bees is encouraged to attend.

• The Union County Disabilities and Special Needs Board of Directors will have their monthly meeting at noon. The meeting will be held at 226 S. Gadberry Street. Lunch will be provided.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the first Tuesday of each month at Grace United Methodist Church at 5:30 p.m.

Post 22 To Improve 2016 Baseball Team

Union American Legion Post 22 is currently working on much-needed improvements for their 2016 baseball team. Changes will be made from top to bottom, and will go back to the 1925 roots of American Legion Baseball, teaching “young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health, and active citizenship.” This quote is from the historical article at www.legion.org/baseball/history

Legion Post 22 is currently looking for enthused volunteers to help carry the proud tradition of American Legion baseball forward in Union County. If you love baseball and working with teenagers, or just like helping out in your community, and are able to contribute in any way at all, please consider volunteering. There are many ways to contribute your time, from being one of the coaches for the regular or junior teams, to just helping out for a few hours at a time. Bereavement Program

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.

The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floor of Austin Rehab.

Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

Facilitators are Rev. Richard Brown, Chaplain; Kanisha Benjamin, Social Worker.
