Up to $1,000 cooling assistance


CCA offering assistance to low-income families

UNION COUNTY — Qualified low-income families in Union County can receive up to $1,000 in summer cooling assistance as well as other forms of assistance from Carolina Community Actions, Inc.

In a statement released this week, Carolina Community Actions, Inc. announced that its Union office is currently accepting applications to assist families with cooling bills and a variety of other programs and services. Applications are taken Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at 201 E. Main Street Suite A, Union, SC 29279.

Additional intake will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 10 a.m.-noon, at the Carlisle Town Hall, located at 3911 Fish Dam Avenue, Carlisle Carlisle, SC 29031.

Income eligible families can receive assistance with their home cooling bills up to $1,000 through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Additional services include HVAC unit repairs or replacement. The General Emergency Assistance Program (GEAP) provides assistance with water bills, rent or mortgage assistance. Funding for self-sufficiency programs provides tuition for educational certificates, job training, employment, medicines, nutrition and child care assistance.

Applicants must bring the following documents to obtain qualification. Additional documents may be required depending on the program service area.

• South Carolina picture ID with current address

• Social Security cards for all household members

• Proof of total gross household income for the last 30 days:

— Weekly, Bi-Weekly or Monthly check stubs

— 2016 Social Security Benefits Award Letter

— UI (Unemployment Insurance) benefits printout and a current job search

• Energy bills (must be in the name of the applicant or adult household member)

• A receipt indicating disallowed fees on the energy bill are paid i.e. outdoor lights, round up fees, etc.

In accordance with the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, CCA is currently celebrating fifty years of promoting self-sufficiency to enhance economic stability for citizens with limited income. CCA is a private non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote self-reliance of low-income individuals and families by forming partnerships which will provide a systematic reduction of the causes and conditions of poverty.
