Charles Warner | The Union Times Summer is here and that means Vacation Bible School at many of our local churches. Grace United Methodist Church is one of those churches and the theme of its VBS is "Cave Quest: Following Jesus The Light of the World." The Grace United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School will be June 26-30 from 5:30-8 p.m. each evening.


Saturday, June 4

8 a.m.-Noon: The ladies of St. Augustine will hold a sale in the Seton House on East South Street. Previously enjoyed clothes from newborn to adult, Christmas items, toys, floral and kick-knacks will be available for purchase.

10 a.m.: The McBeth Baptist’s Aide Ministry is sponsoring a Chinese Auction. The Chinese Auction will be held in the church parking lot at 105 Lawson Avenue, Union. The tickets will drop at 10 a.m. and the drawing will be at noon.

11 a.m.: Corinth Baptist Church Youth holds a Lemonade/Hot Dog Fundraiser. The fundraiser will be held at the future home of the Corinth Baptist Church Park on the corner of North Pinckney and Academy streets. Please come out and support our youth. Noon-3 p.m.: Victory Christian Center, 7228 Kings Ridge Drive, Charlotte, NC, will hold an outreach event for residents of the Town of Carlisle and surrounding communities at Carlisle Park. The event is free and the public is invited to come out for an afternoon of food, fun, music, and ministry for the whole family.

4 p.m.: Mitchell Chapel Christian Church will host a Benefit Program for Sister Lesa Eison Smith and Brother BJ Wright.

6 p.m.: The Pacolet River Baptist Congress of Christian Education will observe its Annual Youth Recognition Banquet at the Baptist Center, Lover’s Lane, Union.

The Youth Banquet Speaker is Miracle Charlette Thompson of New Emanuel Chapel, a 2015 graduate of University of South Carolina, Columbia.

The host church is Mt. Calvary; the host pastor is Rev. Tony Collins; and the host superintendent is Purcell Booker.

Sunday, June 5

2 p.m.: Wyatt’s Chapel Baptist Church, Buffalo, celebrates its Usher Anniversary. Special guests will be The Gospel Prophets, Serenity, Warriors in The Spirit, New Reason, and others. Rev. Elijah Ray, Pastor.

2 p.m.: The Red Hill Baptist Church will have its Family and Friends Day. The speaker for this special occasion will be the Rev. Anthony Wilson, Pastor of the Bethany Baptist Church, Jonesville.

We are asking and welcome all families and friends to come and give us your spiritual support.

Sunday, June 5-Wednesday, June 8

2:30 p.m. & 7 p.m.: Bethany AME Church holds Revival Services. Speaker for the 2:30 p.m. service on Sunday will be the Rev. Patricia Glenn, Paradise AMEC, Union. The speaker for the 7 p.m. services on Monday and Tuesday will be the Rev. Ruben Smalls, St. Paul AMEC, Georgetown.

5:30-8:30 p.m.: Mon-Aetna Baptist Church holds Vacation Bible School. The theme is “Cave Quest: Following Jesus The Light of the World.

Sunday, June 5-Thursday, June 9

6-8:45 p.m.: Philippi Baptist Church holds Vacation Bible School. Supper will be provided each evening. There will be classes from ages 3 through adults. For more information call Philippi Baptist Church at 864-427-8726.

Monday, June 6-Wednesday, June 8

5:30-8:30 p.m.: Wyatt’s Chapel Baptist Church in Buffalo holds Vacation Bible School. The theme is “Barn Yard.” Rev. Elijah Ray, Pastor.

Monday, June 6-Friday, June 10

6-8:30 p.m.: Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church, located at the corner of Bombing Range Road and Old Buncombe Road in Cross Keys, will be having their Vacation Bible School. Ages are K4-7th grade and there is also an adult class.

The signup Kickoff will occur Saturday, June 4 at the Family Life center at 10 a.m. This year’s theme is “Submerged” and we have lots of fun stuff planned, all we can say is bring a towel!

6-8 p.m.: McBeth Baptist Church will hosting their annual Vacation Bible School. The theme for VBS is “Joy in Jesus.” The public is invited. Rev. Freddie L. Wicker, Jr., Pastor.

Wednesday, June 8-Friday, June 10

9 a.m.-6 p.m.: New Horizon United Christian Church, 109 Beltline Road, Union, holds Bible Camp. The theme is “Climbing Jacob’s Ladder: Living Your Dream.” The camp is for children ages 6 and above and all children must be signed in by a parent or adult. No cell phones allowed.

Sunday, June 12

10 a.m.: The Men of Corinth Baptist Church will celebrate their annual Men’s Day Program.

Our Men’s Day theme this year is “It Is All, All, All About God, Not About US!!!”

Please come out and bless.

Our speaker will be the Rev. Warren Harley of Rehovot Baptist Church in Columbia.

The public is invited to attend.

11:15 a.m.: Mon-Aetna Baptist Church serves Sunday Lunch “until all have been served.”

On the menu this week is fried or baked boneless chicken breast, white potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls; tea, lemonade, water; Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

Plates are $8 for adult and $5 for children with children under 3 eating for free.

Proceeds will benefit the Nicaragua Missions Project.

2:30 p.m.: Paradise AME Church will hold Family & Friends Day. Guest speaker will be Rev. Juanita Giles. Rev. Patricia Glenn, Pastor.

3 p.m.: Beatty’s Chapel AME Zion Church holds Family & Friends Day. The speaker of the hour will be Rev. Stringfellow of Emanuel Baptist Church of Chester. Rev. James Cureton, Pastor.

3 p.m.: St. Luke Baptist Church holds its Men’s Day Program. The theme is “Men United For Jesus.” The speaker will be the Rev. Terry W. Norman of Simpsonville. The public is invited to come out and hear the word. Rev. Norman is a native of Union.

Monday, June 13-Wednesday, June 15

6:30-8 p.m.: Monarch Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School.

Saturday, June 18

10 a.m.: Bethany AME Church will have a Men’s Prayer Breakfast in the church Development Center.

Sunday, June 26

3 p.m.: Woodson Chapel Baptist Church will have their Annual Family and Friend’s Day Program. Rev. Phillip Buckson, Pastor of Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church in Spartanburg, will be the speaker.
