Free Summer Lunch And Activities Program

The Town of Carlisle will be offering a Summer Lunch & Activities Program including a field trip and swimming for children ages 18 and under in June and July.

The program will be held at the Carlisle Town Hall from June 8-July 28, Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Summer Fest At Carlisle Park

Residents of the Carlisle area are invited to come out and take part in the Summer Fest at Carlisle Park on Saturday, June 4 from noon-3 p.m.

The event is an outreach to the residents of the Town of Carlisle and surrounding communities. It is being sponsored by the Victory Christian Center of 7228 Kings Ridge Drive, Charlotte, NC.

Summer Fest is free and the public is invited to come out for an afternoon of food, fun, music, and ministry for the whole family.

USC Union Activity Fun Camp

USC Union will hold its annual Activity Fun Camp from June 13-17.

The camp, which will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, will provide children ages 7-11 years of age the opportunity to do the following:

• Learn science and lab techniques.

• Learn CSI techniques such as fingerprinting, foot print casting, evidence collection, DNA extraction.

• Games and team activities daily

The camp cost $80 per child with lunch, snacks, activity costs, and drinks all included.

Monday Night Music — Looking for something new to do? Join us June 22 at 6:30 p.m. for a night full of local, musical talent!

Toddler Time — Friday June 24, 10:30-11:30 a.m. will be all about the little ones! Any child 4 years old or younger is invited to join us! $10.

Door Hanger Class — Are you ready for summer? Make sure your front door is! Join us to create your very own door hanger!

2016 Camp of Clay — This camp is open for all 6th-12th graders! Teacher Katie Paschal will bring out your child’s inner artist through the world of clay!

9th-12th Grade will be 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

6th-8th Grade will be 1-3 p.m.

$50 per student

Upstate Small Ruminant Workshop

Carolina Savanna Farms, 2962 Union Hwy in Gaffney, will be hosting the Upstate Small Ruminant Workshop on June 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $40, which includes lunch, refreshments, a flash drive, and a pesticide credit.

This workshop is beneficial to novice and veteran goat and sheep producers. Several Clemson Extension agents will discuss topics such as: Forages, Evaluation and Selection for Meat Goats, Health, Nutrition, and Marketing. There will be many hands-on demonstrations and an opportunity to try BBQ goat.

8:15 a.m. & 8:50 a.m.: Betsy & Company along with the Over The Hill Gang Relay for Life Team presents a one day trip to Harrah”s Cherokee Casino. First Pick up 8:15 a.m. — Jonesville Municipal Building. Second Pick Up at 8:50 a.m. in Union at the Old Walmart Parking Lot. Join us for a fun filled day. 5-7:30 p.m.: A Spaghetti Dinner Benefit for Conno Randall & Family will be held at the Jonesville Baptist Church CLC. Each spaghetti dinner will include salad, bread, dessert, and drink. Meals are dine in or take out. Adult plates are $8 and child plates are $4.

There will also be a silent auction with “tons of awesome items.” The silent auction will end at 7:15 p.m.

There will also be free face painting, a bouncy house, bingo every 30 minutes starting at 5:30 p.m., and a 50/50 raffle.

There will also be t-shirts with the words “Connor Strong” and a green ribbon on them for sale.

Friends On Main

Friends on Main is now open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Come and enjoy the great prices (3 hardbacks for a dollar; 10 paperbacks for a dollar; and 6 children or young adult books for a dollar) on new and slightly used books as well as purchase a Lions’ broom! Proceeds from book sales support the Union County Carnegie Library and broom sale profits are used for those who need but cannot afford glasses.

FCL Offering $750 Scholarship

Union County Family & Community Leaders (FCL) is offering a $750 scholarship to a Union County adult resident who has been, or is in the workforce, and is raising a family.

This award will be paid out in two installments of $375. The first payment will be made in time for your first semester, and the second in time for your second semester. Award will be directed to the qualified institution (technical school/community college, 4-year college or university) of your choice.

Completed applications are due on or before June 1, 2016. Applications received after this date will be disqualified.

Post 22 To Improve 2016 Baseball Team

Union American Legion Post 22 is currently working on much-needed improvements for their 2016 baseball team. Changes will be made from top to bottom, and will go back to the 1925 roots of American Legion Baseball, teaching “young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health, and active citizenship.” This quote is from the historical article at www.legion.org/baseball/history

Legion Post 22 is currently looking for enthused volunteers to help carry the proud tradition of American Legion baseball forward in Union County. If you love baseball and working with teenagers, or just like helping out in your community, and are able to contribute in any way at all, please consider volunteering. There are many ways to contribute your time, from being one of the coaches for the regular or junior teams, to just helping out for a few hours at a time. Bereavement Program

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.

The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floor of Austin Rehab.

Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

Facilitators are Rev. Richard Brown, Chaplain; Kanisha Benjamin, Social Worker.
